Island Interchange Biome
Terrain
Island Interchange features two island states, a high tide, and a low tide.
During the high tide, the map is mostly underwater and only wood can be obtained, all iron sources are underwater and cannot be mined with tools, or exploded with bombs or torpedos. While underwater, iron sources cannot be walked on, tracks cannot be placed on them, and bridges cannot be built on them. The Turret Wagon can shoot iron that is underwater, making it a useful wagon for this biome.
During the low tide, all of the water goes away and players can walk across the entire map on the sand. During low tide, iron sources are exposed for mining. Once an iron source is mined, it can be walked on and tracked can be placed on it at any time.
The tides shift approximately every 30 seconds.
Animals
Crab
Crabs will turn the water into sand that can be walked over, as well as reveal iron during the high tide. This allows you traverse across the water without bridges during the high tide to gain access iron to clear a path if needed.
Crabs are milkable, their milk gives 5 Multitool Cartridges for 20 seconds. See Milk for more details.
Threats
Cloud
The cloud will seek out the tallest item stacks on the ground and actively try to push them into the water. When an item stack is pushed into the water it is lost. If the player looks at the cloud it will move away from the player, but, if the player is not looking in the direction of the cloud, it will hunt for items to push into the water.
Boss Fight
Octoboss
The Island Interchange bossfight is the Octoboss. When the boss appears, the entire map is turned into the low tide. The Octoboss will appear along with a number of tentacles which fling water across the map. When a tentacle's projectile hits the map, it will permanently change that location into pure water, even during low tide. If the Octoboss's tentacles are all destroyed before the Octoboss goes underwater, the map remains in low tide, allowing the players to move around the map more freely, and get access to iron until the next time the boss appears. However, if all of the tentacles are not destroyed in time, the map is converted to high tide until the boss comes back, making the level extremely hard to traverse due to the water and causes a lack of iron.
It is recommended that players instantly get a tool and attack the Octoboss's tentacles as soon as the low-tide appears. Not destroying the tentacles allows the Octoboss to turn tiles into water, and create a high-tide which can starve the players of resources that might be needed to craft tracks in order to get to the end of the level.
