Water Capacity
Water capacity indicates how strong the wagon or engine can withstand heat before it starts burning. The game uses seconds(s) to indicate water capacity where value indicates the number of seconds it will take for the wagon/engine to burn under a single heat source.
Heat Sources
There are multiple heat sources in the game. The rate of which they consume water capacity is identical (1s of heat capacity per second).
Engine
All engines generate heat while it's moving after the countdown is over.
Fire
Fire can heat up nearby wagons.
Engine is not affected by fire.
If there is fire on both sides of the wagon, the wagon do not heat twice as fast.
Hydro extension
Hydrocharge extension causes the wagon to heat up whenever it is active. If multiple Hydrocharge extension are added, water consumption rate is multiplied.
Turret
Turret wagon heats up itself whenever it is shooting, as if it already contains a hydrocharge extension.
Water Capacity
Engines have different water capacities. See Engines for details.
Most wagons except for Turret Wagon have an initial water capacity of 30.0s.
Hydrocharge can increase the water capacity of a wagon by 20.0s each.
Global Water Capacity
Water capacity of the wagons are separated, except for Tank Wagon. Tank wagons's water capacity acts as global train water capacity. But its individual water capacity is still 30.0s regardless of level. This means if the wagon is dry and a wagon next to it is burning, it would take 30.0s for it to start burning as well. However, if the tank wagon is full while there is still fire around, tank wagon's displayed water capacity would be consumed first before its internal water capacity.
The displayed water capacity of all tank wagons combined is the train's global water capacity. Any heat source, except for fire, would consume the global water capacity first before it consumes the local water capacity.
Example
If the first wagon has 3 hydrocharges, the wagon has 30.0s + 20.0s * 3 = 90.0s of water capacity.
When the wagon is active, it would take 90.0s / 3 = 30.0s for it to start burning.
If the engine is on fire and the wagon is not active, it would take 90.0s for it to start burning.
If the engine is on fire and the wagon is active, it would take 90.0s/ 4 = 22.5s for it to start burning.
If there is a level 1 tank wagon with 30.0s of water capacity, an engine with 60.0s of water capacity, and an active wagon with 3 hydrocharges. It would take 30.0s/ 4 = 7.5s for the tank wagon to dry up. 30.0s later, the wagon would burn. 30.0s more later, the engine would burn.
Replenish
Water capacity of wagons/engine can be instantly replenished by using the water bucket.
If the wagon has no hydrocharge extension, its individual water capacity automatically replenishes at the same rate of heat up. E.g. if the water is being heated by a nearby fire for 20.0s then the fire is putout, it would take 20.0s for the water capacity to fully restore.
For engines and wagons with hydrocharge extensions, their individual water capacity automatically replenishes if the global water capacity is not empty.
For example, if you have a level 4 tank wagon with 60.0s of water capacity and an engine with 60.0s of water capacity. At 120.0s, both the global water capacity and the engine would be dry and the engine would start burning. If you water the tank wagon just before that, it would take another 60.0s for the water wagon to dry, but the engine's water capacity would be replenished back to full during this 60.0s as well. As a result, the engine won't burn until another 120.0s later.
