Handbook description
Picks up commodities placed nearby.
Strategy
In order to activate the Collector Wagon, you must load the wagon's input with wood. Once the wagon is loaded, the wagon will automatically pick up resources on the ground within the radius for the active duration. It will pick up 1 item every collect duration.
The Collector wagon prioritizes collecting resources that are nearby instead of resources near the back. This means even if the auto drop extension is added, it is mostly useless because the collector would pick up that resource as soon as it is dropped. The Storage push extension is very helpful as it will automatically send the collected resources to your storage cart. Without it, resources will only be stored in the collector wagon's output stack and you would have to load the resources into the storage wagon manually.
If you want to direct the resources that are picked up by the collector wagon into another wagon, such as the Compactor Wagon, you can add the front pull extension on the desired wagon and put the collector in front of that wagon to have it automatically pull from the collector.
The Storage pull extension is also helpful as it will automatically place wood in the wagon's input slot to keep the collector powered. Front pull will also work if you put a storage wagon in front of the collector. However, be aware with these extensions the collector will automatically power itself on with any wood that is placed into your storage wagon, and the collector will use one piece of wood every 15 seconds (or longer with time extender), even if there are no resources around for the collector to pick up.
If you think the collector is not fast enough for your train, you can checkout the Mag-Tractor Wagon build.
